Here
is our poker glossary which list definitions of common
poker terms.
All-in
Having all of your money in the pot.
Big Slick
Is the AK
Bluff
Is a bet or raise when you think you don't have the best
hand.
Button
The button represents which player is the first to act
on the flop.
Call
To put in an amount of money equal to a person's bet or
raise.
Chase
To draw to a hand knowing that you likely have the worse
hand.
Check
To decline to bet when it is your turn.
Drawing Dead
When there is no possible why you can beat your opponent
by drawing. Example would be if an opponent had a full
house and you were drawing to a straight.
Flop
Is the first 3 cards on the board.
Fold
To dropout of a pot rather than to call a bet or raise.
Implied Odds
The ratio of the total amount of money you expect to win
if you make your hand to the bet you must now call to
continue in the hand.
Kicker
A side card used help break a tie. For example if you
and your opponent both had one pair, the kicker or high
cards would be used to break the tie in the hand.
Loose
Playing more hands than the norm.
Nuts
The best possible hand at any given point.
On Tilt
A player playing out of his usually normal style of
playing. Often players on tilt will play more hands and
play the hands much more aggressively than they normally
would.
Outs
The total amount of cards that can improve your hand.
Position
The spot in sequence of betting in which the player is
located. A player in first position in the first to act
and the player in last position is the last to act.
Raise
To bet an additional amount after someone has already
betted.
River
The last card on the board.
Set
A 3 of a kind.
Sucker
A player that is expected to lose money. A player is not
as good as he thinks he is.
Tell
A mannerism a player exhibits that may give away his
hand.
Tight
Playing fewer hands than the norm
Turn
The fourth card on the board.
